Unmaking: The Work of Rafael Montanez Ortiz
Although I haven’t finished it yet, this is really a very interesting read about Ortiz and the shaping of his ideas.
The cosmos are trying to tell me something today…
The first email I read this morning was my SwissMiss post update which included the mention of Haptic Labs’ Constellation Quilt Kickstarter project. I really am a fan of their city map quilts, which remind me vaguely of my own City Silhouettes project. These quilts are expensive, but reasonably so considering they are meticulously designed by a talented team and are completely handmade. Tons of images featuring the craftsmanship and loveliness of the final products are included on the Kickstarter page.
The next email I opened was the Photojojo newsletter, which included an interesting planet graphic created by Adam Kennedy Multimedia.
And then the Bergdorf Goodman email that I look forward to every day at the same time showed up with a cosmic collection of shoes.
Jasper Johns. Shrinky Dink 1.
Just spent quite a while picking out a favorite by Jasper Johns for his birthday only to be informed that it was yesterday. Still… I love this piece: Shrinky Dink 1. 2011. Etching. (via MoMA)

Book of the Day: Tim Walker | Story Teller
Tim Walker is one of the most visually exciting photographers of our time. This book showcases many of his most dazzling images his daydreams turned into photographs, dating from around the last seven years of his career. Some of the biggest names in fashion and contemporary culture are here: Alber Elbaz sporting a pair of rabbit ears; Agyness Deyn in the sand dunes of Namibia; Alexander McQueen and a memento mori of skull and cigarettes; Helena Bonham Carter poised with Ray-Bans and a Diet Coke; Stella Tennant in a pink cloud among the rhododendrons of an English country garden The singer and musician Kate Bush contributes a foreword and Walker himself an afterword, as well as illuminating his pictures throughout with personal observations. This exceptional and beautifully designed overview of a career caught in mid-flow reveals just how much one mans singular vision has influenced contemporary tastes in fashion, beauty, glamour and portraiture.
Art Prints by AlwaysTheArtist
I recently began posting images from my City Silhouettes series on Society6. Various sizes and cities are available. Additionally, through May 12, there is a free shipping promotion via the above link.
I don’t generally produce prints this way, but given the original technique, I feel they fit the bill. As always, anything I post on tumblr is available as a print, original, or both, if you contact me directly, alwaystheartistny (at) gmail (dot) com. :)

I’m very disappointed in MoMA and glad to hear about this petition. I like to consider MoMAcrea a forward-thinking and innovative place. They have an architecture and design department, so I don’t understand how they can’t appreciate this building. Branding and cohesion aside, not every structure needs to have a shiny glass facade. There can be renovations to the interior and they can build upwards. Leveling the ground does not involve true creativity as it relates to problem solving.
These Computer Microchip Drawings Are Amazingly Intricate Abstractions
I had the pleasure of seeing these the last time I stopped at MoMA on my way downtown. Super intriguing.
